What is life like as an Azure Support Engineer? My name is Yunus, I am 27 years old, and I currently work on cloud and security environments for clients across Europe. In this blog, I will give you an insight into my job: how I experience my role, which technologies challenge me, and why I feel completely at home at Cats&Dogs.
From a strong technical foundation to an established member of the team
Throughout my professional career, I have built up a solid technical foundation. At Cats&Dogs, I was immediately given the opportunity to further develop this in real customer environments. From the outset, I worked with modern cloud technologies such as Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and Bicep. This approach is still an important part of my daily work today.
I have learned a tremendous amount here. The combination of technology, challenge, and a great team is nice. What appeals to me most is the freedom to take initiative and actively contribute ideas for solutions for customers.
No two days are the same
One day I start at the office among colleagues, the next day I work focused from home. I really value that freedom to choose. After a quick check of my mailbox and tickets, I immediately dive into the challenges that await me. These are often technical puzzles, because I mainly work at the second and third line level.
It’s challenging, and I learn something new every day. I’m a support engineer, but I’m never on my own. The support of my other colleagues is a given here. That’s really typical of Cats&Dogs.
Technology that is always evolving
I work with a wide range of technologies: Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, security, and automation. Everything comes up. I’m particularly fascinated by the security side, because you can really delve into how users interact with systems and how you can make environments more secure.
Automation has played a major role in my work from the very beginning. Coding infrastructure instead of building everything manually sometimes even feels a bit futuristic.
It feels like you’re in a movie, because you control entire networks from your keyboard.
Impact on international customers
What motivates me most is seeing that my work really has an impact. Cats&Dogs supports many international clients, which means I come into contact with people from different countries in Europe on a daily basis. The appreciation you get in return makes the work even more rewarding.
Occasionally, I also speak to clients in other languages. Recently, I spoke German, simply because I enjoy it. Clients appreciate that, but English is always sufficient. So, additional languages are a bonus, but certainly not a must.
A team that helps each other move forward
What makes Cats&Dogs special to me is the team. Everyone has their own specialization, but everyone is still ready to help each other. Sharing knowledge is a given here.
The combination of working from home, a modern electric company car, and enjoyable coffee breaks at the office makes working here feel both efficient and human.
Growing as a professional and as a person
In this role, you never stop learning. The pace can be fast at times, but I see that as extra fuel to keep growing. I also maintain a good work-life balance outside of work. I enjoy working out, swimming, and recently I’ve also taken up mixed martial arts. That helps me stay sharp.
The future looks promising
I look ahead with ambition. First, I want to thoroughly master all aspects of support, but then I see myself moving on to Security or DevOps.
At Cats&Dogs, that ambition is not only encouraged, but also actively supported with training, coaching, and challenging projects.
